"Big Girl" Room Re-do

Gosh, I have been meaning to get these photos up for months, but I have kept putting it off because the room isn't quite finished. Unfortunately, I think I'd better not put it off any longer because my final touches seem to get more distant on the list of priorities these days. Back in February/March I decided it was time to give in and turn the crib into a "big girl" bed, but if I was going to do that, I got the urge to make some changes to the room at the same time.

It all started on our trip to Prescott in February when my friend Alex & I happened upon this BEAUTIFUL platter in an antique shop. I fell in LOVE with it and it became the inspiration for the rest of the room changes. Here is the before "baby" room.

And, below is the re-do! It was so fun to collect the accessories and make the bed quilt. Let me know what you think!


The drapes and vallances were sewn by my mom (Grammy) before Quincy was born. Surprisingly (and luckily - because my tastes change every five minutes) I still love the fun, modern floral pattern we chose three years ago. The finishing touch that I may never get around to was going to dress up the bed a little. I wanted to custom print the letters of her name in different fonts and make toss pillows to spell out her name. Maybe someday...

The tree was also painted with the help of my mom (Grammy) while I was still pregnant. I loved it before, but I absolutely love it now with the pink flowers added to it! Thanks to Alex for the idea and the help!

The art on the wall was designed and created by yours truly before Q was born as well. I wanted something fun with a vintage/modern feel (I know, that's an oxymoron). I still love the fun typography, colors and graphic accents. It was so fun to make.

This was the quilt my mom made for Q to go with all her bedding. It contains a large heart in the middle. I wanted a special place to display it so I found this old iron crib side at an antique sale and it worked perfect. (I also made the awful tutu hanging from it... It ended up to be a crazy wad of frill and Q refuses to try it on!)

I found this lamp at a thrift store for $5 and added the flowers to the lampshade. I think this was my most exciting find!

The chandelier came from a garage sale. Marshal still swears I got ripped off, but I liked it. It was originally brass and not in working order. It's now pink and still not in working order, but at least it has birds on top where the lights used to go! :)


This is the rag quilt I made for Q's bed. I just so happened to have a ton of fabric left from her original crib bedding so I rounded up all my misc fabrics that I've been holding on to and threw this together.


This wall contains the platter that started it all. So gorgeous! The shelves were originally black and brown and came from goodwill. I painted them white and they work perfectly. The chicken is a special keepsake from my Granny's house, the framed photo on the shelf was a shower gift from Grandma Wood and the two photos were a gift from Grammy. I love that it is a room full of special meaning everywhere you look.

Just life

Never a minute to spare, I wanted to at least get some random photos up that capture how life really is. Oh so busy, but worth every busy moment. For memory's sake, here's the good, the bad and the messy.

BIG News!

My brother is FINALLY engaged! It took the perfect woman to finally tame the beast :) but we are so happy to have Tina join our family. What a wonderful night we'll never forget. Let the planning begin!!!!!

Baby Otto

I am so far behind on all my own photos, but I took photos of this gorgeous family this morning and was just much too excited not to post the pics. I am so in love with their house. One of the coolest homes I've been in actually, and a photographer's dream with a ton of cool furniture, a vast assortment of textures and large trees. Clint & Melissa, it was a pleasure... and baby Otto is adorable. Thanks for having me over!

Disneyland Round One

I think I took about a gazillion photos in one day. How can you not get the urge to snap a shot of everything at Disneyland? I just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the atmosphere! Elephant shaped bushes, tiny little buildings, the look of awe and wonder on kid's faces... We were moving at such a fast pace all day, the photos aren't going to win any awards, but the memories are all there. Quincy is still talking about Disneyland (and still remembers the "scary" rides). I am a little concerned she's beginning to take after me in the scaredy-cat department. She was not too thrilled to go on any ride that involved a dark tunnel! She sure loved the dumbo ride, small world, teacups and the roller coaster in Tune Town. My favorite part of the day was just watching her so overjoyed just hanging out with Mischa & Mila, the daughters of our friends that went with us. She loves to dance, hug, tickle and giggle with her girlfriends. It was a gorgeous day with good friends. Couldn't have been better (unless we could have stretched it into three days!) Here's the first round of photos. I only got through half of them tonight so I'll have to post the rest another night.

Guess where we were this weekend...

DIN-NEE-LAN! (As Q would say!) Whew! What a weekend. SO much fun. Lots more to come, but here's a sneak peak into Quincy's first trip to Disneyland.








Also, had to share this photo from Q's swim teacher. She just finished her two week ISR refresher course. It is truly amazing. She can swim and here's the proof!

Peter Cottontail Has Come & Gone!

This poor, poor blog has been so low on the list of priorities these days. This is my sad attempt at catching it up. We've been a busy little family and I don't see life slowing down any time soon... it is actually going to get even crazier here in the next month or two.

I am usually a girl of few words anyway, especially late at night after editing photos, so I won't blab on too much here! I'll let the photos speak for themselves tonight.... I'm spent!

ABOVE: Easter Egg Hunt at Quincy's daycare. Daddy surprised us by showing up! Photo above is Quincy next to her "friend" Madelyn. Madelyn cracks us up every day! She is what you would stereotypically call a "bruiser". Every morning when Q gets to school, Madelyn runs over and basically puts her in a head lock as a sign of affection. When we ask Q what she did at school, she often says "Madelyn squished me" while showing us how she squishes her face. As far as school violence goes, it's so adorable.
