home sweet home

Home decor...yet another passion, although thanks to Pinterest, I feel utterly inadequate in! I could spend endless hours on Pinterest and blogs drooling over beautiful interiors, but it's probably better that I don't have the time because the little green envy monster would probably take me completely over because I can barely unload my dishwasher let alone decorate my home.

In actuality, our home has slowly been taken over by the kids. NO JOKE. First to go was our living room. We felt extremely selfish keeping a room full of furniture that NO ONE EVER entered while the toys began to spill over into ever open crevice in our house. I found the strength to let it go and we sold the room full of furniture and "on a budget" converted the living room into a playroom.

When the twins came, the next sacrifice was the formal dining room. Considering we just aren't the dinner party type of people, we used that room maybe 3 times a year, making it hard to rationalize keeping as is. With the ex-living room full of pre-school toys (aka... tiny little choking hazards), we needed even more room for baby stuff downstairs. Hence, playroom numero dos. Ugh.

Anyway, I do what I can, when I can, if ever I can.... and HOPE to do more home improvements in the future as we can take back our house. I love thrifting so you may notice there is a lot of Goodwill in my home and I like it that way. I've always loved the thrill of the hunt, the feeling of saving a dime and the fulfillment of finding a diamond in the rough ;)

Here are some of the rooms in our house:

*****QUINCY'S NURSERY: 2007*****

I did a small collage way back when of Quincy's room when she was a baby. It hasn't evolved much. I still remember designing the 6 pictures, painting the wood "frames" and decoupaging them on our kitchen counter. Where does time go? Grammy made the special quilt on the wall and the lace quote wall hanging was a lovely gift from Grandma Wood.

*****QUINCY'S BIG GIRL ROOM RE-DO: 2010*****

When Quincy was ready to move into her "big girl bed" I decided it was time to put the finishing touches on her room that I never got to originally. I fell in love with a vintage platter in an antique store in Prescott and it gave me the inspiration to add some more feminine touches to her room. I demanded my friend Alex come over to help me decide exactly how to tackle my ideas because she has the BEST taste in home decor IMO. We added flowers to the painted wall tree, rearranged furniture and hung wall displays. I am still in love with Quincy's room (minus all the random trinkets, jewelry and clothing strewn about the place now).

*****TWINS' NURSERY: MAY 2011*****

I did a lot of planning before the babies and then got put on bed rest so the completion had to wait until after the twins were born. Marshal was shall I say "slightly concerned" about the black and white striped wall as he so sweetly painted it for me while I was preggo. I think he's come to terms with the big picture and can now admit I knew what I was doing...maybe? :)

It was challenging to come up with a room for a boy and girl. I was so used to PINK seeing as Quincy is a girly girl. I really didn't want to go too feminine for the poor little guy!

I created most of the art in the room while on bed rest. Thank God I could at least lay with my computer next to me.

I created the art making light of the fact we literally named our son: "OllieWood". I mean, if you're gonna end up being teased about your name, it should at least be kinda cool sounding, right? I dunno... poor kid. The frame was thrifted and re-painted. :)
This is my (& everyone else in thee world's) favorite Ikea frame. I created Miley her own piece of art as well. Although it was created before she was born, it is spot on. That girl's smile can light up the room like no other and she hands them out left and right. Miss social (aka in everyone else's business) everywhere we go, smiling and waving to strangers.
Quincy made onesies for each baby as their gift when they were born so we framed them for the babies to keep forever.
Chair: Not my first choice but by your second (& third) kid, you give a little to function over form! Found this one at a garage sale for $30. It was oak and the cushions were blue jean. Yucky! A little spray paint and recovering the cushions did the trick.  Green Table: I wanted something more stylish but ended up having to use what we had. This was originally oak and we'd had it since college. Again, my dad spray painted it for me while I was "laid up" and it turned out pretty cute IMO.
